Résidents de la République

Words and music: Gaëtan Roussel

Un jour je t'aimerai moins
One day I will love you less
Until the day that I won't love you anymore
Un jour je sourirai moins
One day I will smile less
Until the day that I won't smile anymore
Un jour je parlerai moins
One day I will speak less
Until the day that I won't speak anymore
Un jour je courrirai moins
One day I will run less
Until the day I won't run anymore

Hier on se regardait à peine
Yesterday we hardly looked around
C'est à peine si l'on se penchait
We were hardly interested
Aujourd'hui nos regards sont suspendus
Today our sight is suspended
Nous résidents de la République
We residents of the Republic (France)
Où la rose a des reflets bleus
Where the rose has blue reflections
Résidents résidents de la République
Residents, residents of the Republic
Des atomes, fais ce que tu veux
With the atoms, do what you want

Un jour je te parlerai moins
One day I will speak less
Perhaps the day when you won't speak to me anymore
Un jour je voguerai moins
One day I will sail less
Perhaps the day when the earth will part itself

Hier on se regardait à peine
Yesterday we hardly looked around
C'est à peine si l'on se penchait

We were hardly interested
Aujourd'hui nos regards sont suspendus

Today our sight is suspended
Résidents résidents de la République

Residents residents of the Republic
Où la rose a des reflets bleus

Where the rose has blue reflections
Résidents résidents de la République

Residents residents of the Republic

Dearest, with the atoms, do what you want

Alain's last public appearance on February 28, 2009. He won three

his voice and sound reminds me a little of Leonard Cohen.

Very nice.

I liked being about to see the words.

With the words there, I coudl understand a lot, because once I used to speak French some. Une peite peu.

I've forgotten more than I ever knew though.

I really LIKE Leonard Cohen, so I immediately took to this, because it reminded me.

I'm so happy to see that website growing. Bashung, the last of the great. It's a big work to translate his lyrics, and big pleasure to read them.

Many Thnak's Laura !!!

Many thanks for all this work on Alain Bashung. I know just enough French to be confused by the lyrics. You have made the words clearer, even though the meaning remains obscure to me. But I was hoping someone would do this. Many thanks again.

Evocative language, Laura. Your work certainly highlights the restless mood within.

Have you seen the video shot across a desolate landscape of the U.S?

Merci,
Dallas.
